Occasionally we have reports of issues with the apostrophe key not working when working on the keyboarding curriculum within Learning.com. Sometimes there are other keys also, but most often it is the apostrophe. This can happen on ANY device. It is typically associated with Chromebooks, but has also been found in desktop and laptop devices. The following information will outline the steps to adjust the keyboard language settings on your device.
The keyboard settings on the effected device will need to be set specifically to “English (United States) – US” or something similar.
*The words “PC” or “International” cannot be in the language setting name.
Since there are multiple devices being used it is best to use your preferred search engine to find the best steps to follow in order to change the language settings for your specific device. Most Windows run devices are the same, but if you are unable to find the specific keyboard language settings, searching for your device is the best next steps to ensure you have the most up to date information.
The following steps will outline adjusting these settings for your Windows laptop. Please note that iPads do not contain a keyboard language location.
*External keyboards are required when using iPads with our keyboarding curriculum.
Windows run laptops and desktops:
- Go to Start (Windows icon) and select settings:
- Type in Keyboard language. Select “Edit language and keyboard options” in the drop down:
- Select “Keyboard” :
- Select “English (United States)- US” from the drop down if that is not already the default
